The Explorer's Lounge on the Nieuw Amsterdam has been through a lot of changes in recent years. From a favorite comfortable spot for relaxing, conversastion, and reading, it was transformed into the Lincoln Center Stage, a venue for classical performances (and a favorite of HAL cruisers). But, after Holland America's contract with Lincoln Center expired, while its name reverted to the Explorer's Lounge, although the rows of seats and the raised stage remained unused and rather sad.
But now the stage area has been updated with comfortable seating and a bar, and brightened up from its all-grey upholstery into the more pleasant space you'll find today.
So, don't be surprised if you find me here reading after dinner. And, if you're in search of a beverage, there are waiters ready to provide you with a glass of wine, a cocktail, or a liquour. Waiter, I'd like a Grand Marnier, please!
